What goes wrong most often, what it actually means, and what to do about it. Most of these are setup, not faults — and turning on Config.Debug = true makes the console say which framework and inventory were picked. Check that first.
Installation#
The resource stops at start with an error naming custom.standalone
No supported framework was running when Books Creator started. Make sure es_extended, qb-core or qbx_core is ensured above qs-book-creator in server.cfg. Books Creator does not run without a framework.
Using the book does nothing
On ox_inventory, the item is missing
server = { export = 'qs-book-creator.useBook' }, or the resource folder was renamed.Elsewhere, the item is not marked
useable, or its name differs fromConfig.BookDefaults.item.The inventory starts after Books Creator, so it was never detected.
On ps-inventory, there is no adapter yet — Integrations shows the two-line fix.
With Config.Debug = true, a healthy start prints Registered usable book item: book followed by your inventory's name.
"This book has no data" as soon as any book is used
The detected inventory is standalone: none that can hold item metadata is running, or it starts too late. The classic ESX inventory cannot store a book — use ox_inventory, qs-inventory or another supported one, and start it before Books Creator.
Database errors mentioning qs_books
The table was never created. Import database.sql into the database your server uses, and make sure oxmysql starts first and connects.
The writer or reader is a blank screen
The interface ships ready-made in web/build/. If that folder is missing or half uploaded — common with FTP clients that skip files — download the resource again from the CFX Portal and upload the whole folder. Do not change anything inside web/.
Writing and Reading#
The same book opens an empty writer every time
The book id never reached the item, so each use looks like a blank book. Two causes:
The item stacks. Set
stack = false(ox_inventory) orunique = true(elsewhere). The inventory's adapter cannot write metadata yet — Origen, Core, Codem, Tgiann and AK47. Integrations explains the missing function.
"This book has no data" when opening a written book
The book has no title or no pages, or it was deleted. Choose Edit on the item, add at least one page and save.
"Please fill in all required fields"
The title, the author, or the Content of a page is empty. The writer scrolls to the first one and highlights it.
"Failed to update book"
The server refused the save: it could not read the player's character, or the database rejected the write. Look for a BOOK ERROR or an oxmysql line in the server console at that moment.
Add Page is greyed out
The book reached Config.BookDefaults.maxPages — 50 by default. Raise it in config/main.lua and restart.
Editing one book changed other players' copies
Correct behaviour: items that carry the same bookUid are copies of one book. Hand out read-only text with the openBook export instead — see Usage → Copies of the Same Book.
Anyone can write or edit a book
Writing follows the item: whoever has a blank book writes it, and whoever holds a written one can edit it. Control who gets blank books — Usage → Who Can Write has ideas.
Pictures do not show
The address is not a direct, public link to the image file, or it has expired — Discord attachment links do after a while. Open the address in a private browser window: you should see the picture alone, not a page around it. The F8 console in game shows a failed load for a broken one.
The texts stay in English after changing Config.Locale
The interface reads locales/en.json. Copy your language's file over it and restart — Usage → Languages.
Messages#
What players see, the locale key behind it, and what it means:
Message | Key | Means |
|---|---|---|
This book has no data |
| No title or pages, a deleted book, or an inventory without metadata. |
Book saved successfully |
| Stored in the database, and the item updated. |
Failed to update book |
| The server refused the save. Read the console. |
Book removed successfully |
| Deleted from the database. Its items remain, empty. |
Please fill in all required fields |
| A title, author or page content is empty. |
Maximum pages reached |
| The page limit in |
Still stuck? Open a ticket and include your server console with
Config.Debug = true, your framework and inventory with their versions, and a screenshot of the F8 console for anything about the interface.
