What goes wrong most often, what it means, and what to do about it. Most of these are load order, a missing item or a setting, and the console usually names the cause.
Installation and Start#
"You have renamed the script!" and the server freezes
The resource folder must be named exactly qs-inventory. Rename it back and restart.
Errors at start, or the inventory never loads
The framework is detected once, when qs-inventory starts. Make sure oxmysql, ox_lib and your framework start before it in server.cfg, then restart the whole server.
On ESX, an error about GetUsableItems means es_extended is not using qs-inventory: set Config.CustomInventory = 'qs' in es_extended/shared/config/main.lua, or use the pre-edited es_extended from Installation.
"You do not have permission to open the inventory settings" (or creator)
Add the ace to server.cfg — the server console prints the exact line to copy when someone is refused:
add_ace group.admin command.inventoryconfig allow
add_ace group.admin command.inventorycreator allowFramework admins (ESX admin and superadmin, QBCore and Qbox god and admin) always get in.
"/inventoryconfig will not save until then"
The resource could not create its own tables, usually because the database user lacks the rights. Run the qs_inventory_settings and qs_inventory_creator blocks of sql/esx.sql or sql/qb.sql by hand — only those two blocks, not the whole file.
A setting I changed does nothing
Fields with the Restart chip — language, keys, target, hands up, throwing, clothing, crafting, garbage, commands and a few tables — apply after restart qs-inventory. The header of the panel counts the changes waiting for a restart. A key change only affects players who never set that key themselves.
"Missing webhooks" in the console
Informational. Fill in the channels you want in server/custom/webhook/webhook.lua and run testwebhooks in the console.
"KickableDrops needs OneSync"
Kicking items on the ground needs OneSync. Turn OneSync on, or switch off Kickable items on the ground in Settings → Capacity; bags then stay still.
Items#
An item does not exist, or my edit to items.lua does nothing
On QBCore items are read from qb-core/shared/items.lua, so qs-inventory/shared/items.lua is ignored there. On ESX and Qbox it is the other way round. Item names must be lowercase. Creating the item in /inventorycreator → Items works on every framework without a restart.
"The following items were removed for player … as they no longer exist"
A player had an item whose definition is gone — renamed, deleted from the items file, or a creator item that was deleted. Put the item back before the player loads, or accept the removal.
An item shows NO IMG
The image must be a PNG in qs-inventory/web/dist/images/ whose name matches the item's image field exactly, capitals included — or a full https:// link. Restart the inventory after adding new files so players download them.
"Inventory is not working, clear the inventory column [sql] to continue"
The player's saved inventory is in a format qs-inventory cannot read — usually the old ESX one. Bring it over with the importer (see Switching to qs-inventory), or reset that player's inventory column to [].
"You can't carry more" with plenty of space
That is a carry limit, not weight: Settings → Item rules → Carry limits. By default a player carries one bag, and backpack, backpack2, briefcase and paramedicbag all count as that one bag.
Food never goes off, or goes off too fast
decay is the number of days the item takes to go from 100% to 0%: a higher number lasts longer, and 0 never decays. The condition is updated when an inventory is opened.
Stashes, Trunks and Points#
"The inventory is being used by another player or you opened it too quickly"
Stashes, trunks, gloveboxes and bags open for one player at a time. If one stays stuck after a crash, free it with /resetinv stash <id> (or trunk / glovebox with the plate).
"Cannot access a trunk that is not yours"
Anyone can open any trunk is off in Settings → Vehicles: owned cars open only for their owner and for police from the chosen grade. Trunks of cars whose plate contains PLZI are always police-only. A locked car says it is locked.
Trunk items disappear after a restart
With Only owned cars keep their items on, cars that are not in your owned-vehicles table do not keep their trunk and glovebox. Turn it off to save every car.
A creator stash, shop or bench shows no prompt or blip
Its Access lists jobs or gangs: only those, from the minimum grade, see and open it.
Benches stay hidden while Crafting is off in Settings.
With Use target on, points only open through ox_target, qb-target or qtarget — if none is running, they cannot be opened. The panel shows which target it found.
Use the Teleport button in the creator's list to check where the point really is.
Vending machines or dumpsters do not open
Stand right next to the prop and press TAB, or use the target eye when target is on. The prop model must be in Settings → Vending machines or Garbage, a machine must point at an existing category, and new models added there only get their target option after a restart.
Clothing#
The Clothing button is missing or does nothing
Check Clothing system (needs a restart) and Show the Clothing button in Settings → Clothing. The clothing screen does not open in a vehicle, and only works with the freemode characters (mp_m_freemode_01, mp_f_freemode_01). The 14 clothing items must exist in your items list.
Clothes appear as items while trying them on in a shop
The clothing menu must pause the inventory while it is open, with setInClothing(true) and setInClothing(false) — see Integrations.
The outfit is not saved after a relog
The appearance script must start before qs-inventory to be detected. The worn pieces themselves are always kept by the inventory.
Weapons#
"Your weapons.lua is broken! AMMO_TYPE is not found"
That weapon has no ammotype in your weapons list (qs-inventory/shared/weapons.lua on ESX and Qbox, qb-core/shared/weapons.lua on QBCore). Add it, or set the Ammo type in the creator's Weapons tab.
The GTA weapon wheel and number keys stopped working
That is intended: weapons are carried in the inventory and drawn with keys 1–5 or the quick wheel. A script that needs the GTA wheel back can call exports['qs-inventory']:WeaponWheel(true).
"You can only have one magazine in your weapon"
One magazine at a time is on (Settings → Weapons): the weapon is already full. Turn it off to let reloads stack magazines.
The weapon is broken
Its condition reached 0. Use a repair kit with it in hand, or a repair point. "This weapon can't be repaired here" means its weapon type has no price in Settings → Weapons → Repair prices. To stop a weapon wearing, set its wear to 0 or add it to Weapons that never wear out.
"The attachment is not compatible with this weapon"
The weapon has no component for that attachment. Add it in the creator's Weapons tab (Edit an existing weapon), and check the item in Settings → Weapons → Attachment items.
Shops#
"Config.DisableShopGenerationOnClient is active"
Server-only shops is on (Settings → General, advanced), so a script that builds its shop on the client is refused. Make that shop with the CreateShop and OpenShop server exports, or turn the setting off.
OpenShop returns false
The shop was never registered with CreateShop, the player is more than 5 m from its coordinates, or the shop has job groups the player does not meet.
A product is missing from a shop
Products whose item does not exist are skipped. Check the item name, or create the item first.
Stock refilled after a restart
By design: limited stock starts full again when the resource restarts, and refills on its own every "Restock every" minutes.
Importer and Alerts#
"That inventory is started next to qs-inventory"
Remove the old inventory from server.cfg and restart before importing. Its folder can stay in resources, not started.
Some players were not imported
Players online during the import are skipped. Run it again with the server empty: players already converted are not imported twice.
"That doesn't look like an item list"
Paste the whole items file exactly as it is, or only its entries. The limit is 4 MB.
Too many anti-dupe alerts
A job or event that legitimately gives a lot of one item can trip the burst alert. The Activity view shows which script gave it; raise the limits in Settings → Anti-dupe alerts for that case.
Still stuck? Turn on Debug mode (Settings → General, advanced), restart, and open a ticket with the start of your server console and your
server.cfgload order.
