What goes wrong most often, what it actually means, and what to do about it. Most problems print a red CLOTHING ERROR line in the server console that already names the fix — read that first.
Installation and Access#
"server.cfg is missing required permissions"
The red block repeats in the console every ten seconds, and admins opening the studio get the same notice with the lines in F8. Every publish is refused until it is fixed. Add the five lines above the line that ensures qs-clothing-designer:
add_ace resource.qs-clothing-designer command.ensure allow
add_ace resource.qs-clothing-designer command.start allow
add_ace resource.qs-clothing-designer command.stop allow
add_ace resource.qs-clothing-designer command.restart allow
add_ace resource.qs-clothing-designer command.refresh allowPasting them into the live console works at once; the block stops and the console confirms that the permissions were found.
The command does nothing, or says "You do not have permission to do that"
The player is not an admin for Clothing Creator: an ESX group listed in Config.AdminGroups, god / admin on QBCore and Qbox, or the command ace on standalone — see Claiming Admin Access.
If the command is not even recognised, it was renamed or emptied in Settings → Commands. The console prints the current name at every start (admin command: /…), or says that the admin command is switched off. The OpenStudio export still works either way.
"Database never became ready"
Clothing Creator waited 30 seconds for its tables and gave up. oxmysql is not started before it, or mysql_connection_string is wrong. Fix the order in server.cfg and restart.
selfcheck dotnet: "C# service not answering"
The asset pipeline is a C# module that runs on FXServer's Mono runtime. Update your server artifact to a recent one, and make sure server/dotnet/QsClothingCreator.Server.net.dll is present — an incomplete upload or an antivirus can remove it. Nothing can be built until this check passes.
"The clothing templates on this server are encrypted" or "damaged"
The template files in qs-clothing-designer/templates did not arrive intact. Download the resource again from the CFX Portal and replace the folder; if you upload over FTP, use binary mode. Your data in qs-clothing-data is kept.
The studio is a blank page
The interface ships ready-built in web/build. If the self-check reports web/build/index.html missing, the upload was incomplete — reinstall the resource.
"The studio only works on freemode peds"
Your character is not mp_m_freemode_01 or mp_f_freemode_01. Switch to a freemode character before designing.
Publishing#
"qs-clothing-meta is not running and cannot be started while players are online"
Somebody stopped or restarted qs-clothing-meta by hand with players online. Starting it again under a running game crashes clients, so publishing is paused. Restart the server once and it clears. Never restart that resource by hand — Clothing Creator does it at safe moments.
The item was published but is "waiting for a server restart"
It went into a new slot, a new collection or a used-up reserve, and you chose not to apply the declaration live. It goes live by itself when the server is empty or restarts. To do it now, use Admin → Apply now (no restart) or type qsc-apply in the console. A higher Reserved cells per slot makes this rarer.
"Your game still held a freemode model after the refresh" or "Someone joined during the publish"
The new declaration was held back to protect the players' games. Either a script on the admin's own game keeps a freemode ped alive (a character preview, a ped menu, a mannequin), or a player joined after you confirmed and was never warned. The item waits for a restart or an empty server; Apply now tries again.
"qs-clothing-assets refused to stop" or "failed to start"
The cycle timed out waiting for the drawables resource. On a slow or busy host, raise Settings → Publishing → Restart timeout. Otherwise read the server console for an error from qs-clothing-assets itself, and check that the add_ace lines are in place. The item is marked failed and nothing else changes.
"Every collection for this slot is full"
A slot holds 128 items per collection, and overflow collections run up to eight per gender. Retire items nobody uses: with Reuse retired slots on, the next publish fills their cells.
"This slot would exceed 255 total texture slots in the collection"
All the variations of every item in one slot of a collection share a budget of 255 — a limit of the game itself. Publish with fewer variations, or retire items with many.
Items under "Needs re-publishing"
Their texture files are gone from qs-clothing-data/items — usually because the data folder was deleted or replaced during an update. Those cells ship empty so the rest of the collection keeps publishing. Open each design from Saved Designs and publish it again; it returns to the same cell.
"The build timed out" or "The C# asset service is not running"
The build service is not answering. Read the console from the resource start: the dotnet self-check line says why. Restarting qs-clothing-designer is safe at any time.
"A publish is already restarting the assets resource"
Another admin's publish is mid-cycle. Wait a few seconds and press Publish again.
Players and Wearing#
"This item is not in your game yet"
The player's game does not have the item's collection: it waits for a restart, or it was applied after the player joined and they missed it. Reconnecting fixes the second case. qsc-collections in F8 lists what the player's game actually has — if no qsc_ collection appears, it never mounted.
"Reconnect now — the next clothing update could crash your game"
The clothing declarations changed while this player was in game and their game could not take the change. They should reconnect before the next publish.
Some players still see the old design
They did not press the refresh key before Flush prompt timeout ran out, so the publish carried on without them. Run qsc-flush to give everyone another prompt, or have them reconnect.
Pressing the refresh key does nothing
The key is only accepted once the player's clothes have finished loading — they see Your clothes are still loading — press again in a second. If the player rebound the key, the card shows the default; their own binding of Refresh clothing streaming cache in the FiveM key bindings is the one that works.
Empty options in the clothing menu
Expected. Reserved cells — declared ahead of use so new items go live without a restart — and retired items both show as empty options. Set Reserved cells per slot to 0 to stop reserving, at the cost of more publishes waiting for a restart.
"Variation B is not in the game yet"
Variations were added to an item that was already live. The game learns the new count at the next server start (or an empty server); until then variation A is worn instead.
"This item was built for the other gender"
Male and female items live in separate collections. Switch ped, or design the piece again on the other gender.
Images and Addon Clothing#
An image link is refused
Message | Fix |
|---|---|
Remote image import is disabled | Turn on Settings → Images → Allow image URLs, or upload the file. |
That host is not on the allow-list | Add the host to |
URLs pointing at private networks are blocked | Host the picture publicly — links to localhost or your LAN are refused on purpose. |
The image is larger than the configured limit | Shrink it, or raise Maximum image size. |
The URL did not return an image | Use the direct link to the file (it usually ends in .png or .jpg), not the page it is shown on. |
Addon drawables are "Locked by Asset Escrow"
The pack is encrypted, and only the game of a licence owner can open it — the server has no key. These drawables cannot become templates. Ask the seller for an open (non-escrow) version.
"Damaged file", "File missing" or "Match-previous drawable, not supported"
The drawable in the pack is incomplete or unreadable, or it is a _m match-previous drawable, which cannot be imported. Re-upload the pack in binary mode, or skip those drawables.
"Imported, but hidden: the … slot is switched off"
You turned that slot off yourself in Settings → Slots, so the import did not switch it back on. Turn the slot on and the templates appear.
An imported template cannot be removed
Published items are built on it, and removing it would leave them nothing to build from. Retire those items first.
Error Keys#
Callbacks and exports return short codes; the text players and admins read is the errors.<code> key in the locale files. The ones you will meet most:
Key | Means |
|---|---|
| The player is not an admin. |
| The add_ace lines are missing from server.cfg. |
| Publishing is paused until the server restarts once. |
| A pre-flight row is red: name, variations or capacity. |
| Other players are online: a live declaration needs confirming. |
| Apply now was pressed with nothing waiting. |
| Saved designs per player reached — delete one, or raise the setting. |
| The design's template is no longer installed. |
| An addon import is already running. |
