The Three Layers#
The workshop is always there. On top of it sit two optional layers — dressing for a car meet, an open day or a server event — and a single number decides which of them are showing:
Layer | Command | What is loaded |
|---|---|---|
Workshop |
| The building, its interior, the garage doors and the break area. Nothing else. |
Event |
| The workshop plus |
Event + food |
| The workshop plus |
The food never loads alone. It is laid out on the event tables, so layer
2always brings the event layer with it — there is no way to show plates floating where the tables should be.
What Each Layer Holds#
The workshop#
Always loaded, whatever the layer. More than 150 placed pieces across the interior, plus the doors and the break area around it:
Area | What is there |
|---|---|
Service bays | Three bays, each with a custom lift behind its own custom roller door. Two engine hoists, two car creepers and power drills. |
Tyres and wheels | Two custom wheel balancers, five custom wheel racks, two hub racks and eighteen rims. |
Parts and tools | Tool chests and drawer units, a custom pipe run, oil cans, paint tins, gas cylinders and racks, pallets, a sack truck, a cleaning trolley and bins. |
Office and lounge | Two custom desks with chairs and office chairs, three custom sofas around a coffee table, two ceiling TVs, a jukebox, a soda machine, a key cabinet, a heater and a wall clock. |
Decoration | Racing trophies, framed car art and industrial lighting throughout the hall. |
Break area | A corner with car seats, tools, a radio and an ashtray, and a table with chairs at the west end. |
The event layer#
Thirteen pieces that turn the shop into a meet:
A gazebo over a table with four chairs.
A barbecue grill.
A second table with three chairs at the south end, and a concrete barrier.
A full dog bowl — this one needs game build 3570.
The food layer#
Fifty-seven pieces laid out on the event tables:
Burgers, tacos, turkey legs, bowls of crisps and bar nuts.
Beer bottles, juice and whiskey.
Ketchup and mustard, napkins, food jars, a serving tray, and a chopping board with a knife.
Switching Layers Live#
Use /mechanicmap followed by the layer number. It works from chat for anyone with the permission (see Granting the Command), and from the server console or txAdmin — where the slash is left out:
/mechanicmap 2 # in game chat
mechanicmap 0 # in the server console or txAdminThe moment the command runs:
The server saves it
The new number replaces the old one and is written to
map_state.json. The console confirms it with[MECHANIC MAP] State updated: 2.Every player is told
The number is sent to all connected players at once — no reconnect, no resource restart.
Each client applies the difference
Only what changes is loaded or unloaded. Going from
2to1clears the food and leaves the gazebo and tables standing; going from0to2brings in both layers together.
Players who join later are covered too: half a second after the map starts on their side, their client asks the server for the current layer and loads it, so a newcomer walks into the same party as everybody else.
A missing or out-of-range value — anything but 0, 1 or 2 — changes nothing and answers with the usage line, in chat for a player and in the console for the console:
Usage: /mechanicmap [0-2] (0 = off, 1 = event, 2 = event + food)Saved Across Restarts#
The active layer is written to map_state.json the moment it changes and read back on every start. A server that was showing the food layer on Friday night comes back with it on Saturday morning, until somebody switches it off.
{
"activeMap": 2
}On start, the file… | What happens |
|---|---|
holds 0, 1 or 2 | That layer is restored. |
is missing | It is created with |
has no | It is rewritten with |
holds any other number | No layer is loaded — the same as |
Hand edits only count on the next start. The running server keeps the number in memory and overwrites the file the next time anyone uses the command — so to change the layer on a live server, use the command.
